Von Sweetsville is third major settlement accessible in the game. It is accessed from Route 5. When entering it, one of the most noticeable details is the graffiti and trash around the town, along with the various homeless people, most of whom appear to be addicted to candy. It is run by Dulcis von Sweets, who is also the owner of the nearby candy factory.
Story Events[]
Upon entering the town for the first time, we are greeted by Quincy, who informs the player that Mister Riffraff left him at the entrance of the town after he was teleported. Then, he and the player plan to head to the town'sDoodle Station, however, they are stopped by a beggar who asks for $1,000. If the player chooses to give money to the beggar, they will gain karma. If they choose not to, they will lose karma. Then, the beggar turns around and walks into a pole. Quincy and the player then head to the Doodle Station, with Quincy calling it "the only decent building in town."
At the Doodle Station, the player and Quincy meet Suzie, a girl who wants to help the two of them break into von Sweets' factory. She explains to them that she had always hated candy, and was constantly mocked when she was young for not wanting to eat candy for lunch. She heard that von Sweets was creating a candy that was "better than any candy ever made before," and she wanted to try it to see if it would change her mind about candy. Then, she tells the two that there is another person who wants to break into the factory, and he is located in the town's Help Center. At the thought of being near or in a Help Center, Quincy shudders.
Inside the Help Center is TJ, who, after seeing that the player has caught up to him, promptly hits his head against a wall. Then, he explains to the player and Quincy that their best chance of getting in the factory is if they find an employee and steal their clothes. Conveniently, a factory employee walks into the Help Center and delivers some candy to the receptionist. Then, he announces that his one-hour break has begun, and leaves the building. The player, TJ, Suzie, and Quincy split up in order to find him.
The employee is located on the half of town closer to the Candy Factory. TJ has already found him and is explaining to him that they want his clothes so they can get into the factory and help von Sweets. The employee agrees that he does need some help, but will only give TJ a uniform if he can be defeated in battle. The player then challenges the von Sweets Goon to a battle. After defeating him, he leads TJ to his house to give him a spare uniform, while the player go talks to the secretary standing at the factory gates, holding off a protest.
The player explains to the secretary that they want to enter the factory not only to get the Key, but to help von Sweets. The secretary agrees, and tells the player of his unfortunate backstory. He says that he and Dulcis (which is von Sweets' first name) were best friends when they were young, and that Dulcis befriended a Doodle that was not only a culinary master, but a Legendary Doodle. He and the Doodle worked together to found the candy company, and used the money from it to expand the small shop into a palace. Originally, the relationship between the factory and the town was very good. However, one day, the Doodle stopped making any food that tasted good. No matter what Dulcis tried to do, he couldn't restore the Doodle's cooking skills. One day, he woke up, and the Doodle had vanished. Dulcis felt wrecked and betrayed, and ever since then, he had locked himself away inside the factory.
The secretary tells the player that their best chance of finding this Doodle would be to go to the place that Dulcis met it: Chef's Valley. The only way to access it is via the subway. The entrance is guarded by a man named Junjie, and the secretary tells the player to go talk to him. After talking to Junjie, he lets the player into the subway and allows them to proceed into Chef's Valley to continue the story.
After finishing the story events of Chef's Valley, the player, Quincy, and Suzie return to the factory's gates, only for the secretary to still refuse them entry into the factory because he didn't see Pandishi enter. He then tells them that if Pandishi didn't take the train back, it would take weeks for it to arrive. However, TJ, in the von Sweets Goon's outfit, comes to their rescue by saying that it went through the employee door. The secretary believes TJ, and tells him to keep guard of the gates with him, as the player and the others can enter the factory.
After defeating von Sweets, TJ asks the player to go find Suzie and Quincy. Suzie is located inside the Help Center, and when talked to, she tells the player that she wishes to join the group on their adventure, then leaves to go meet TJ. On the other hand, Quincy is inside the Doodle Station, getting his Doodles healed. He comments on how he can trust the place since it's owned by DoodleCo. Then, he challenges the player to a battle, in hopes of taking the second key from them. Once he is defeated, he will go to meet TJ at the gate.
Back at the gate, Quincy and Suzie tell TJ that according to Mister Riffraff, the third key is owned by a student at DoodleCo Academy. TJ explains that he feels as if Riffraff has an ulterior motive and is very fishy. However, he decides to listen to Riffraff's advice since he was correct before, and the group makes their way to Route 6, which is accessible from the back door of the factory.
Once Quincy, TJ, and Suzie have left, Mister Riffraff teleports in front of the player. He explains that he cannot help the player at the academy, since Teneson is currently there as a guest speaker, and he knows how much Teneson hates him, since they "go way back." He also says that the player should know something important about TJ, but he stops himself mid-sentence, saying that it won't matter in the end. Then, he wishes the player good luck as he teleports away.
