Rufus

Rufus is a DoodleCo employee who is the leader of DoodleCo's Adventure Unit, a branch of the company in charge of finding Keys. He works for Cortés who is third-ranking in the DoodleCo company.

Story[]

Some time earlier, Rufus traveled to the Nevarian Outskirts in search of the Forest Key. He came across a pack of bandits, the leader of which was wearing the key around his neck. The Bandit Leader was a descendant of King Alder, a king who fought long ago in the Doodle War. The king was cursed during the war, and each of his descendants became less and less sane. As a result, the Bandit Leader was a savage who could only speak in growls and grunts, and viciously attacked Rufus on sight. Rufus managed to defeat him and obtained the Forest Key.

Rufus is first met by the player in Lakewood Tunnel, working with the DoodleCo engineer from earlier in the story to clear up the garbage truck blocking the tunnel's exit. He says that he wants to get to DoodleCo City in order to deliver a package. The engineer explains that it will take a while for the truck be removed, as people from the nearby Landfill will have to be called in. As a result, he tells the player and Rufus that they can relax in Riffraff's Lair while they wait.

In the lair, Rufus comments on how Riffraff's Lair is the coolest sewer home he's ever seen. Then, he gets interrupted by Inari. Her and Rufus immediately express a dislike of each other, with the two of them constantly trying to insult each other. Inari explains that she obtained the Stone Key from a heist of the Doodle Museum of History, and defeated the curator, who was the Key Guardian. Then, Rufus suggests that the player should battle either him or Inari to pass the time. Rufus' Doodles are of a much higher level than Inari's, but he rewards an additional 400 Gems for defeating him.

After the battle, the engineer enters the lair to tell the group that the truck has been cleared. Rufus leaves, saying that he is sure that the player will meet him again.
