Chaining in Doodle World is a mechanic that increases the rate of finding Skins, Hidden Traits, and Misprints. Players can increase their chain by knocking out the same Doodle continuously, or using a Chain Ticket to gain 10/50 or 1/5 for legendaries on their chain. Catching any doodle, even the chained one (except Runic Island doodles) without a Chain Capsule or knocking out a different Doodle before a chain of 50 will break the chain. The chain will persist between game sessions and will not be broken by leaving the game. Players can use the Chain Preserver to save their chain for later.
Chains affect Encounter Rate, Legendary Doodle Rate, Misprint Rate, Skin Rate, Hidden Trait Rate and Stars. All of the chaining boosts stack so that, for example, the encounter rate boost and misprint chance boost happen at the same time. Chaining boosts only affect the Doodle that is currently being chained. The Doodle that is currently being chained and the chain count can be seen by using the Tally Counter or by clicking the Doodle in the bottom right corner.
Chains at 50 or more can't be broken by defeating wild Doodles. Legendary Doodles require a chain of 10 for this to occur.
Friend Chaining[]
Added in v.0.9.26, friend chaining is a process in which people can help each other increase their chains, provided that they are in the same server, are chaining the same doodle, and are Roblox friends. If these requirements are met, for every doodle that a friend knocks out, 0.5 will be added to the player’s chain.
The maximum amount of Doodles added to a player’s chain via this method per day (per species) is 200 for non-premium players and 250 for premium players. After reaching the maximum, the player's chain will increase by 0.2 per doodle that a friend knocks out.
Whenever a friend knocks out a Doodle while friend chaining, a notification that says "[Username] increased your [Doodle Name] chain by 0.5!" along with the remaining amount of Doodles that can be added to the player’s chain via friend chaining for the day will pop up on the bottom right of the player’s screen.
Encounter Rate Boost[]
As chains are built, different boosts build up over time for that particular doodle. The first noticeable boost is the encounter rate, but only for rare doodles. Common doodles like Wiglet don't benefit from encounter rate boosts until they get very high, due to already being common.
Every chain of 10 will increase the chained Doodle's encounter rate by 10%, but only if their base encounter rate was lower than that. For example, a rare encounter like Moss has an encounter rate of 2/100(2%). If 10 Moss are chained, its encounter rates jumps to 10/100 (10%). If a Doodle with the Hunter ability is used, the encounter rate goes to 20/100 (20%). However, since Tadappole has an encounter rate of 98/100 (98%), it will not get an encounter rate boost from chaining.
These boosts continue until the encounter rate is capped at 50% (60% with Hunter). When 50+ Moss are chained, Moss' encounter rate will be fixed at 50% (60% with Hunter) until the chain is broken.
Special Doodles Rate Boost[]
Legendary Doodles[]
Legendary Doodles work slightly different to all other chaining boosts. Legendary Doodles have varied base encounter rate, ranging from 1/800 for Glubbie and Zerzura to 1/1200 for Maelzuri, Pandishi and Qilintel. For every Legendary Doodle encountered, the encounter rate divides (denominator) by the chain. For example, if 1 Glubbie is defeated (chain of 1), the encounter rate is still 1/800. However if 3 Glubbie are defeated, (chain of 3) the encounter rate is now roughly 1/266 (0.375%). Using the same formula, The odds keeps dividing until a chain of 6 is achieved, which is roughly 1/133 (0.75%).
In relation to all other special Doodle boosts, chaining 1 Legendary Doodle counts as chaining 10. For example, a non-Legendary Doodle would have a misprint chance of 7/4000 at a chain of 60 where a Legendary Doodle would have the exact same misprint chance at a chain of 6.
Misprints Boost[]
Misprints have a base encounter rate of 1/4000. Every chain of 5 (or 1 for a Legendary Doodle) increases the numerator by 1. For example, if 20 Moss were chained, Moss would have a Misprint chance of 5/4000. Chaining is unlimited for boosting Misprint rate, so if a chain of 420 for Moss was obtained, it would have a 50% encounter rate and be a misprint every 85/4000 (2.15%) of the time.
The chance of misprints can go up to 100% after a certain point. To calculate the misprint odds at a given chain, the following formula is used:
[1 + (ChainCount / 5)] / 4000
This formula does not take into account the increases from trinkets, completing all tasks, or using a misprint boost. Those just listed will modify the 4000, with the Worn-Out Misprint Trinket increasing odds by 10%, and the rest doubling odds entirely. When calculating a Legendary Doodle, the (Chain Count / 10) part of the formula is skipped.
A calculator of the approximate Misprint odds for any given chain, with Misprint boosts accounted for, can be found here.
Skins Boost[]
Skins have a base encounter rate of 1/1000. Chaining skins don't follow the "increase numerator rule". Instead, 2 times the chain number is subtracted from the skin odds (denominator). For an example, at a chain of 244, skin chances are brought to 1/512 (1/1000-2*244). Skin boosts, unlike other boosts, cap out at 1/100 (1%). This means chaining any further than 450 will not increase the skin odds. However, as of the Update Log, Doodles whose tasks are completed in the Doodlepedia can have their skin chance raise up to 1/25 (4%) instead of 1 %.
Basic Formula: 1 / (1000 - 2 *ChainCount)
Similarly, this formula can be applied to Vintage skins, which has a base encounter rate of 1/2500 (1/500 for boosted vintage skins).
The chance for skins for Legendary Doodles work in a similar fashion. Instead of subtracting the chain number from the skin odds, it subtracts the chain number * 20.
Legendary Formula: 1 /[1000 - ChainCount * 20]
Hidden Trait Boost[]
Hidden Traits have a base chance of 1/200 (1/100 with Hidden Trait Trinket). For every chain of 5, the numerator is increased by 1. Like Misprint chaining, this boost has unlimited stacks so it could guarantee a Hidden Trait. The Hidden Trait is guaranteed after chain 1000 (500 with Hidden Trait Trinket).
Hidden Trait Formula: [1 + (Chain Count / 5)] / 200
The "Chain Count" in the formula will always round down to the nearest multiple of 5.
Stars Boost[]
Chaining stars is much unlike the other boosts. Instead of increasing higher star chance depending on the chain, it instead limits the amount of stars a Doodle can have as a higher chain is achieved. Achieving a chain of 250 grants the maximum amount of minimum stars on a Doodle. The following table lists the ranges that limit stars:
- 13+ chain = at least 2 stars
- 25+ chain = at least 3 stars
- 38+ chain = at least 4 stars
- 250+ chain = at least 5 stars
Tints, Uniques and Sizes[]
Tints (1/500), Sizes (1/500) and Uniques (1/1500 or 1/1000 during week-ends) cannot have an increased chance of being encountered by chaining, meaning they are the rarest characteristics to have on a doodle. Having them on top of 6 stars MHT doodle will drastically increase its value.
Trinkets & Boosters[]
Trinkets stack with chaining. There is a trinket for Legendary Doodles, Misprints and Hidden Traits. Let's use the Mythical Trinket as an example. If the Mythical Trinket is owned, it cuts the base encounter rate of a Legendary down to 1/600 (from 1/1200, Glubbie's encounter rate is cut from 1/800 to 1/400).
Since chaining Legendary Doodles halve the denominator, the maximum chain of 6 now gives a 1/100 (1%) chance of finding a Legendary. Using the Misprint Trinket, if a chain of 30 was achieved, there would be a Misprint rate of 4/2000 (0.2%).
Worn-out Trinkets[]
There are also special Worn-Out Trinkets players can obtain as Secret Rewards if certain gamepasses (which aren't available anymore) were purchased from Project Pokémon, being the Worn-Out Misprint Trinket and the Worn-Out Mythical Trinket.
They both increase the chances of those Doodles by 10%. Meaning, that if we take our 1/600 chance of finding a Legendary with the Mythical Trinket, it will now become 1/540 (0.185%), and with a chain of 6 Legendary Doodles would increase the chance to an incredible 1/90 (1.11%). Taking the 1/2000 chance of finding a Misprint with the Misprint Trinket, the increased chances added would now become 1/1800 (0.06%), and with a chain of 30 it would become 4/1800 (0.22%), which is a slightly higher percentage than the normal Trinket chances.
Boosters[]
There are 2 boosters that influence chaining - 2x Misprint Chance and 2x Roaming Legendaries. Let's take the 2x Misprint Chance booster as an example and add it on to our previous example. So now we have a chain of 30, usually this would mean a 4/4000 (0.1%) chance, but the Misprint Trinket made in 4/2000 (0.2%) and now our new 2x Misprint Chance has just made it a 4/1000 (0.4%) chance. Apply the same thinking to Legendaries and the best encounter rate for a Glubbie becomes roughly a 1/30 (3.33%) chance.
Tips[]
- There's Weekly bonus that boosts misprint and legendary encounter rate. Misprint odds are boosted by 1.5x at 8th~14th of every month and legendary doodles are 20% more common at 22nd~29th of every month.
- A good percentage of chains are broken due to not paying attention, especially before hitting a chain of 50+.
- If you accidentally defeat the wrong Doodle, reflexes are key. Close the game as fast as possible. As long as the battle is still going, it can result in the game not saving, and as such saving the chain. This does not always work, however.
- When chaining, it is generally more efficient to have a team of multiple Scavenge Doodles in the party. This will bring a natural income of items, some of which can be valuable.
- If five Doodles with Scavenge are not available, filling the empty slots with Doodles that need Exp or Levels for their tasks is also a good idea.
- Make sure your Scavenge Doodles are at least level 5, as it will make chaining Doodles that come from swarms or the Doodle Market easier, as they will default to a low level.
- It is recommended to use Scavenge Doodles with level 10 or under, since the guaranteed rewards are either Bandage, Orb of Light, Orb of Darkness, Used Crayons. (1x, not 100% chance).
- If a Doodle has a "Knock out X with" task, such as Thornet, it is generally recommended to complete that task with a chain. Chaining often requires knocking out a lot of Doodles to get the desired variant, and can easily finish off the entire task.
- Using Lilbulb's or Jelluminous's ability, Incandescent, Doodle's with higher stars can be encountered much easier. Make sure to place the Doodle in the front slot of your party, as the ability will only activate when it's in that slot. It does not matter if the Doodle dies, since it will still work.
- Also, having Taser on it will help with catching the Doodle.
- Running Shoes equipped will also help guarantee running away from Doodles, making you chain faster.
- Using Swoptar's Hunter trait increases the encounter rate of a chained Doodle. Additionally, it learns Glancing Blow, which ensures that there's a good chance of catching the Doodle being chained.
- It is also recommended to run Pickpocket on your Swoptar, as it could be helpful for events that may have wild Doodles with held items.
- Using a Chain Capsule will not break your current chain only if you capture a Doodle that is not the Doodle that you are chaining. This is a great method to capture Misprints, Skins, or Tints of doodles that are not the one your chaining without breaking your chain.
Trivia[]
- Prior to v0.8.3b, the player would chain twice as fast on weekends(Friday, Saturday, Sunday), with +2 chain per knock out. This feature is now permanent by doubling rate boosts.
- For some reason, the maximum skin chance is currently at 1% regardless if you completed doodle tasks (not sure if it is intentional)
