Battling is one of the core mechanics in Doodle World.

How It Works[]

When a Doodle battle begins, the user can choose between four options when it is the user's turn. They are Fight, Switch, Bag, and Run.

Fight[]

When fight is selected, the user can use the moves that the Doodle has learned to fight against the other Doodle. The opposing Doodle will also choose a move. The sequence of what attack goes first depends on the Doodle's speed, or if the move is a priority move. (Example: Fast Food would go first no matter how fast your doodle is, since it's a priority move.)

Using a Doodle's move will consume a use. Uses can only be replenished when the Doodle is healed at the Doodle Pharmacy. If your Doodle runs out of uses for every move you have, your doodle will use an attack called Desperation. This causes a bit of damage to the enemy but a lot of recoil damage to you (one third of your max HP is lost).

Switch[]

When the user decides to switch, a screen pops up, with the six (or less) Doodles that the user owns. Selecting a specific Doodle will make you choose between another 3 choices. The first choice is Stats, which allows the user to view the specific Doodle's stat. The second choice is Switch, which will use up a turn to switch the active Doodle to the Doodle selected. The last choice is Cancel, which cancels your action.

Bag[]

The user can look into their backpack and view their items. Only capsules and medicine can be used in wild encounter battles. Items, held items, scrolls, key items, and Equipment cannot be used or given in a battle. Medicine can't be used in user tamer battles, but can be used in NPC tamer battles and wild encounter battles.

Run[]

When the user decides to run, there is a chance (currently unknown, but it's likely dependant on user's speed, or the move priority) that the running fails. When a running attempt fails, the opposing Doodle will use the move it selected, without your Doodle being able to use a move. If the running is successful, the battle ends.

In NPC and User Tamer battles, the run option is swapped with a forfeit option. Forfeiting a battle will result the user in a loss.

Types of Battles[]

There are three types of battling. They are Wild Encounter Battles, NPC Tamer Battles, and User Tamer Battles.

Wild Encounter Battles[]

Wild Encounter Battles (Player vs. Doodle) are battles that happen between the user and a wild Doodle. Items can be used in these battles, and there is a "run" option to flee from the encounter. Usually, these Doodles can be caught via the use of a Capsule, but there are some exceptions, such as set battles against Legendary Doodles like Glubbie, Pandishi, and Qilintel. All locations in the game have wild encounters, with the exception of Sketchvale, Lakewood Tunnel, Riffraff's Lair, and Graphite Temple.

NPC Tamer Battles[]

NPC Tamer Battles (Player vs. NPC) are battles that happen between the user and the set NPC. The NPC's doodles are different depending on which NPC you are fighting. Items can also be used in these battles. If all of the player's Doodles are fainted, or they forfeit the battle by pressing "run," they will lose a certain amount of cash, and be sent back to the last Doodle Station they visited. If a player leaves the game or disconnects in the middle of a battle, they will spawn in front of the tamer they were battling, and will not have lost any cash.

User Tamer Battles[]

User Tamer Battles (Player vs. Player) are battles that happen between two users in a server. Items cannot be used in these battles. To challenge a player to a battle, enter the menu, enter the Social section, and click the "Battle" button. These battles can be customized in a few ways.

Format[]

Currently, there are two formats. The first option is singles, where only one Doodle is active in battle (1v1). The other option is doubles, where two Doodles are active in battle at once for the user (2v2).

Ruleset[]

So far, there are three rulesets. The first ruleset is Casual, where no restrictions are in place. The second ruleset is Competitive, where each doodle in your team needs to be a unique species while holding a unique item, and it also does not allow species exclusive to the Roulette. The last ruleset is Random, where each player receives 6 random Doodles that are fully evolved. The Doodle's level is proportional to the Doodle's stats, unless set by the "Level" setting below.

Level[]

As of right now, there are four options for level. The first option is Unchanged, where levels of your Doodles are left as is. The second option is Level 5, which forcefully sets all Doodle's level to level 5 for the battle. The third option is Level 50, sets all Doodle's level to level 50 for the battle. The last option is Level 100, sets all Doodle's level to level 100 for the battle.

Team Preview[]

Team Preview can be turned on or off to toggle the function of the user being able to see the opponent's Doodles, and vice versa.

Time Limit[]

There are currently two options for time limit. First is the 5 minutes option, where each tamer has a limit of 5 minutes to do their actions. Then, there is the 15 minute option, where each tamer has 15 minutes to do their actions.
